Understanding Types Of Acne Aids In Treatment

While some people seem to suffer from acne more often than others do, everyone at one point in their life has probably been afflicted by the unsightly, often embarrassing signs of various types of acne. It can come in slight forms such as blackheads or whiteheads to the most severe type, cystic acne, which is a cyst near the skin's surface with the bacteria lodged deep.

In order to prevent or cure acne problems, it is important to be able to recognize the different types of acne as well as what causes each type of form and how what works on one may not work on others and, in some cases, can actually make the situation worse. Typical acne will begin as a small lesion on the skin and develop into a blackhead or whitehead, which can be removed by scrubbing or in persistent situations, by squeezing.

A more inflammatory condition often referred as pimples, results in a raised bump on the skin of varying sizes, and often contains a pus material. The most severe of the different types of acne is cystic acne, which is often confused with a pimple, but the pus contains bacteria that is embedded deep under the skin and are painful to the touch. They do not usually appear on the face, but are common on the beck and back. To prevent aggravating the cyst, light clothing to allow the blemish to heal will help, but attempting to squeeze them usually results in intensifying the pain and pushing the bacteria deeper into the skin.

Acne Does Not Discriminate By Gender Or Age

Of the many types of acne, there is little restriction by age or gender of who will suffer from it and typically, it is associated with the teen years when hormonal changes are rapid and almost constant, acne has been known to return later in life. Sufferers have also been knows to have acne into middle age for no apparent reason.

Many believe certain types of acne are the result of the appearance of normal levels of testosterone, which results in the disappearance of the problem, as the sufferer grows older. In come cases, however the condition persists even as the person matures. Common causes of many types of acne include oily skin, the use of oil-based cosmetics and hormonal changes due to a variety of reasons.

There are many types of acne medications available over-the-counter but without knowing the type of acne that is appearing, finding the right product can be difficult.
